Visual diary #2 – really good grub

{Cobination of Chinese roast meats – a fave dish of the Bo’s from Hong Kong Jin Tian @ 58 Seng Poh Road #01-15 S160058

It’s a standalone coffeeshop and while we still prefer our roast pork at our usual Serangoon place, the duck & char siew here is really good.

Get directions and operating hours here.}

{crispy prata at R.K Eating House, 1 Kensington Park Road Serangoon Garden Estate.

It’s located directly opposite Chomp Chomp and the Bo & I usually get our maggi/beehoon goreng fix – remember to ask for THAI style – here.

Love their crispy and fragrant pratas too (I usually opt for plain) but reckon it’s best to consume it there while it’s still pipping hot and wash it down with some teh tarik}

{favorite tau sar piah from 603 Tau Sar Piah @ 603 Balestier Road.

It’s located among the row of tau sar piah shops near the junction of the Balestier/Thomson road but situated on the most left, also nearest to the carpark.

By far the Bo’s & my faourite due to its fragrance & tastiness. }

Visual diary #1 – darlings & favourite foods

Here’s my first attempt at starting a visual diary for days/posts when I’ve nothing much to say except to post photos just so you know that I’m still alive and kicking (just saying) ;p

{Having Korean BBQ dinner with my IJ darlings before I go into confinement mode within the month}

{2 of the darlings – Fi & Margie who made sure they took good care of us 2 preggers in the group}

{primary & secondary school classmates, now moms-to-be and both expecting dragon boys}

{cookies & creme milkshake for a quick perk-me-up, which baby chungkin enjoyed}

{group shot}

{all-time favorite snack & recent craving, tu tu kueh}

{my nth time of bubble tea throughout entire pregnancy, first time trying milk tea and its so good!}

Korean BBQ dinner was at:

Catching up & more nesting with the BR

I absolutely love my BR. Because she’s the sort of bestie that makes you wish the world had more of, plus she’s going to be the chungkin’s godmama (which I know she’s darn stress about. Haha. Responsibilities, don’t they freak out the best in us at times?) in just a few days/weeks’ time.

We had a smashing good time catching up over some (delish) brunch at Baci Italian Cafe earlier this morning and a follow-up in the evening at my crib when she came over to help complete the finishing touches of ‘chungkin’s corner’. I did give her some ‘tough moments’ with the pasting of the decals initially, which I’d admit was not easy to do especially needing to ensure that everything was stuck as straight as possible; though kudos to BR that she managed to get the hang of it soon enough and did such a fantastic job!

Everything-chungkin looks so put together now despite the fact that we only have a corner to offer to our little bub at the moment, but just looking at it over and over again makes my heart smile so much. I know that baby chungkin is going to enjoy his little corner.

Salted caramel ❤

We had a Queenies gathering at our favorite zhi char stall today but the highlight of our outing was being introduced to a new ice-cream place: Salted Caramel

Pam pam had been looking for another equivalent to Island Creamery, so when she tried SC few days ago, she knew she had to bring us here.

We tried 4 flavors: Horlicks Tim Tam, Lychee, Salted Caramel & Earl Grey. And boy, were they all tantalizing! The waffles smelt really good too (I know BR was utterly tempted to place an order for one, except that we were too full from our dinner) so we’ve made arrangements to come back for more (next time with waffles) just 1 week before the chungkin hits full term!

recovery

Thank you everyone for your concerned sms/whatsapp/messages/comments/emails.

The cough has subsided from a chesty one to a dry one. no more gross looking greens coming out though the urinary continence still persists along with each cough. I had an embarrassing moment this morning while sleeping. I was too lazy to get out of bed to visit the loo so I held it in and some 4 coughs later, even my trusted poised pads for urinary leaks couldn’t hold it all in. :(

Glad I recovered about 90% too, because I was really looking forward for some crab feasting and catching-up with some friends tonight. And boy did we enjoy our crabs so much (there was pepper, butter, cream, chilli) that the moment we started getting our hands dirty on crabs, all conversations came to a halt till after we were done!

That’s full crab concentration for you. :p

{deep fried buns vs. healthy steamed ones. guess which ones ran out first!}

{crabs in full display. In butter, pepper, chilli & cream sauces to choose from}

{group shot take 1 – with our happily filled bellies}

{group shot take 2}

And in case you’re wondering, yes we’re all pregnant!!!  :) …which did invite some questions & attention from other residents who saw us in the lift together.

On my way up to friend’s place, I even took a chance & asked a pregnant lady if she was here for the crab party as well (since I was aware that our guest lists were all preggies). And indeed she was! Phew.

It’s amazing how we got to know each other through 6 degrees of separation, and even more amazing was how there’s just an instant spark & connection when one preggers meets another regardless of familiarity. LOL.There’s just SO much to talk about.

Food was really good and was ordered from:

Mellben Seafood

Blk 211 Lorong 8 Toa Payoh,

#01-11/15 Singapore

Tel: +65 6353 3120

I had a fabulous night, with enough crap crabs to last me for a few months.

Skyving on Lunar New Year’s Eve

I had a craving for some western brunch after church today and remembered reading about the ‘Croque Madame!’ which Skyve served so off we went – although the Bo did ask me to consider Chalk’s Sunday brunch too, but my mind was quite made up.

We arrived at 10 Winstedt Road (location of Skyve) and took a little stroll around the ex-school compounds before settling ourselves in the relatively un-busy and tastefully modern setting of Skyve. Saw the menu and instantly knew what I wanted – Croque Madame, of course! and was utterly pleased that the staff was able to accommodate my request of ensuring that everything, including the supposedly runny yolk on the sunny side up, would be cooked thoroughly well for their pregnant patron. :D

Food arrived in reasonable time and boy was I sniffing my croque like a puppy, asking the Bo to sniff as well. The smell of melted cheddar cheese, tomatoes, sliced ham grilled on brioche bread was just so so so so alluring. It was also then I think the husband might have regretted ordering his usual classic breakfast over mine (I did share eventually). It tasted so good as I devoured morsel of ‘the loafing breakfast’.

And so, we left 2 happy campers, with our tummies satisfactorialy filled, heading home to complete what seems to be the last 15% of spring cleaning to do.

Have a happy reunion dinner everyone!

Mummies Playdates

You know how mummies tend to want to organize play dates for their little ones with others around the same age?

Well, technically I’ve given myself (and the chungkin) a head start already because since more than a month ago, me and 2 other moms (who are also due in Apr) have been actively organizing our own mummies play dates revolving lunch/cakes/coffee/shopping/online shopping amidst other adventures!

Today, we had a reunion lunch meet-up just before the year of the Rabbit ends in 2 days’ time and boy, did time fly by so quickly just eating, shopping, yakking & eating again. Frivolous, I like!

It won’t be long before our all-exclusive mommies play dates will start to involve our little bubs now.

{at PS cafe Paragon}

{rustic potatoes with greens. Our only substitute because this outlet don’t have truffle fries. Boo}

{Ashley’s triple cheese penne}

{My order of all-day breakfast sandwich}

{Group shot of our jelly bellies + Annie’s darling little Kyan}

{After some shopping, we had to stop for some desserts. A must in every gathering}

{Mr. Cutie}

{Ashley was a really good toddler sitter & entertainer}

The tea-time lady and entering the 3rd tri…

I’ve always wondered the fascination with TWG (after all they just sell tea, right?) since spotting their tea boutiques; and it wasn’t till I had my first session there last Dec (initiated by request from a friend who wanted to have tea there) that I may have concluded the hype about it.

For the friend (an Australian chick who loves visiting Singapore and always wanted to have tea there), it was about the macaroons, ambience and cute staff.

For me, there was just something very English about the entire affair (and I’m quite the sucker for all things English). The nostalgic furnishing perhaps, or fine bone china being used, friendly staff dressed primp & properly, to even the lovely choice of ‘Disney music’ (as I term it) being played in the background – it felt like I was transported into a magical place oozing of old-world charm. Sitting & watching the world go by within the tea boutique and outside (credit goes to excellent choice of venues & location within the malls) and feeling like a lady of leisure, if even only for a few hours. And needless to say, the various aromas fused from the different teas and those scones served with tea jelly – icing on the cake.

Today was the 3rd visit for me in 2 weeks – with a different bunch of ladies each time of course, and I had lunch there for the 1st time, which is not too bad! I know it sounds pretty extravagant, but it was definitely one of the better places where we could really get a decent conversation going on without having to repeat.

Plus with b.chungkin making his appearance in a matter of 10-12 weeks, …here’s to tea, scones, awesome catching up with great company for at least 1 more time before D(elivery) day and motherhood begins! Don’t think the little one’s company will be appreciated by other patrons by then :p

{tea-infused lagsane}

{roasted chicken sandwhich}

{scrambled eggs with greens & prawns on the side}

{my company for the day!}

And on an even happier note, here’s me at almost-28 weeks:

Happy Boxing Day! :)

say cheeeeeeeese

Sometimes I feel bad for abusing pregnancy status to fit in 2 extra meals in addition to my usual 3 big ones (which I do eat, preggers or not because I’m not much of a snacker) but since the 2nd tri came, I’ve been almost having 2 lunches & dinners every other day (maybe because I still don’t have the habit of having breakfast?).

I know the whole ‘eating for 2′ shouldn’t be taken literally because the body really only needs an additional 300 calories a day to support the pregnancy but I can’t help it.For the last 3 days, I’ve been just thinking & wanting a cheeseburger (which I’ve not had in years, because I usually go for McSpicy or McChicken or McNuggets) so last night, the husband & I absolutely had to go grab this from the nearest Macs we could find (which is a 10 min drive away, darn it!) because I was starting to add the word ‘cheeseburger’ to every corny joke and sentence I could think of.

I reckon it must have drove the husband nuts enough to get out of the house half past midnight yesterday to finally shut me up with this:

a good ole’ cheeseburger.

[p/s: when we first started trying, we used to joke a lot about getting the Bo to satisfy my night-time cravings when the time eventually came. Obviously when nothing happened for a long while...this joke wasn't funny anymore. Not too sure if this cheeseburger thingy was in anyway related to that. Hmm.. still thankful for this wonderful experience nonetheless - cheeseburger or not]

Fast Food Fix

I was starving the other day near lunchtime, and was too lazy to pack food from the nearby coffeeshop (honestly there are only 3 stores that sell food, of which I’ve eaten from them all during the week and last’s) hence I thought of ordering some fast food service. Note: Cooking for one can be quite bothersome…plus I’m quite a fan of online services :)

I was first tempted to order KFC online , but remember that they don’t deliver fries because of ‘soggy’ reasons (which I don’t get it since eating fries at their outlets ain’t that un-soggy…). I had Macs 2 nights ago so I wasn’t too keen, besides waiting time as of 11:20am was 70 minutes and I was too hungry to wait. I then went on to pizza hut’s website, and having a single pizza to myself just didn’t sound as appetizing…

A pity that Thai Express don’t entertain weekday lunch deliveries, so in the end I decided to go with Pastamania. I had forgotten that Pastamania did deliveries with an additional of $2.50. And turns out it was quite a good choice after all.

After ordering a main dish & sides and confirming my order, I was told that it would take 45 minutes (the shortest waiting time out of all the fast food sites that I had went to earlier). However, within 30 minutes, my door bell rang and Pastamania delivery boy was there passing me pipping hot pasta which was nicely separated from the gravy (well-done) and sides with extra chilli (generous much).

I enjoyed lunch so much that I raved about it to Bo & mom later that evening. How ironic, considering that I rarely go to Pastamania for my pasta fix – although I would say they ain’t too bad for a home delivery one!

Delish!!!

Mid-weekend

Hello folks, its mid-weekend and I hope you’re having a good rest doing what you enjoy best.

I had a really fabulous start to the weekend,  a hearty italian lunch at Capri Trattoria with good company. The squid ink ravioli was amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever tasted squid ink this good (the chef even came out to share with us his recipe and method of cooking) and the stuffing oozing of generous minced lobster, prawns & crabs was to ‘die for’.

There was just so much heart into the cooking, and all the pasta dishes we ordered to share (total of 3 different types of pasta and sauces) had a distinct and authentic homemade flavour to it which made it absolutely addictive & delicious (Note: If you love food with truffle oil, you’ll be pleased to know that they cook their dishes with generous portions of it.) Sorry that I also didn’t manage to capture any lovely photos of the food nor place. I was too distracted by the aromas and eating…

After lunch, the husband & I headed to town for an afternoon cuppa coffee as we people watched and play scrabble. The husband only started playing scrabble after I introduced it to him recently, so it was hilarious and bruising to my ego at the same time as I watched him form words after words (gaining as high as 30 points for a word), leaving me open-jawed most of the time as I struggled to form as many 4-letter words in my attempt to catch up in points. All in good fun. :)

The evening ended up with good ole’ delicious Thai/Indian food which we took-away, as we watched 2 DVDs of laughs back to back. Oh how I enjoy couple time so much.

We’re so looking forward to some formula 1 action tomorrow – hope Vettel wins again!
