Starting 2012: nesting phase 1

While most kids & adults were preparing to head back to school & work after a long break yesterday, the Bo & I were busy running from megastore to another, purchasing flat-packed boxes and staying up all night till 1:03am to put together some new storage cabinets in the bedroom as part of our ‘room-improvement-for-baby-chungkin’ project, though I helplessly stood at a corner for most of the time, accompanying the husband and nursing a really bad cold & cough (my first nasty bug since pregnancy) every few seconds which has been bugging me for the past 2 days – probably an aftermath from late nights, continued feasting, lack of sleep and having lots of dust present with all that assembling & shifting in the room.

And as of this morning – pending one more dismantling of existing shelves to shift stuff into the new one – happy to report that our room is now officially IKEA-fied which means we now have an official space for b.chungkin & his things without having to call in a team of contractors and pay a hefty sum just to manage our storage & space management needs.

:)

I can’t wait for nesting phase 1 to be completed soon so that we can get started on phase 2 & 3 really soon. Time seems to be flying really quickly these days, and it’s all getting very exciting!!!

Space Inspiration

With the ongoing idea for room improvement and how we can better improve the work station area in the bedroom to avoid making it look like a bulk of clutter (read: more stylish) while being able to hold more stuff and pleasing to the eye; here’s what I came across on Refinary29 today:

Perhaps a trip for some furniture ogling is in order this weekend.

Before & After inspiration

I’ve been struggling with the set-up & layout of our Master bedroom for a while now. While I’m thankful & appreciative that we’ve such a big room space that we can fit about more than 5 people comfortably (with their own leg and stretch space) at any time, I’ve been challenged by the husband to think of better ways to spruce up the space.

And for the longest time, I’ve been around the ‘loft’ theme. For the very reason that everyone who hangs out here keeps saying that our room looks like a self-sufficient studio apartment. We’ve got a mini TV-and-living-room-idea which I’m tempted to banish, a well-equipped & mid-entry range of audiophile worthy equipment, a personal washroom, a large balcony area to hang some clothes & enough picnic/booze space, a king sized bed, walk-in closet etc.

So when I came across this ‘Before & After’ project at Design Sponge today, I just knew I had to paste it here for to add on to my inspiration board of home & decor ideas. Who knows, with the future expansion, this idea could come in really handy :)

Happy Friday y’all.

apartment therapy

Bo & I went to shop for a tiny accessory for our entertainment room today but ended up ogling at gorgeous furniture at Dempsey instead. -_-

Discipline, when it comes to furniture shopping, we have not.

And since extra finances to spend, we have not as well…we met up with Alv for a cuppa at Gardens and chatted mainly about ‘ideal home plans for the next 5 years’ instead.

The husband had some wild ideas swimming in his head though. I was laughing too much to take him seriously too.

So here’s sharing what’s currently fueling my home/decor lust instead (if I can’t have my own home with my hubs, I might as well learn to make the best out of my current one before hubby’s crazy ideas steam in).

Clean, spacious bedrooms. Note to self: clear my clutter. Lots of it.

its a b**th to be cleaning glass, but ideally the husband & I would like to live in a house like that some day

ideas & ways how I can stack my piles of magazines and not having to throw them away

Don’t think I can ever work with such a tiny space for my study but its good to at least try keeping it neat…

I can only hope that I walk the talk next.

That would be exciting.

IKEA Peace Love Storage

If you’re an IKEA fan or one that can’t deal with the mess your other half constantly creates (like my husband, lol), you’d probably enjoy watching this video.

I did.

And it makes me want to tidy up our bedroom right now. Just as a starting point for now.

Happy Thursday everyone, the weekend is at the doorstep.

cool homes in Singapore

I was doing my usual web surfing this morning when I chanced on a Yahoo article showcasing ‘Singapore’s Coolest Homes’

And as with many home owners out there who wished we had the finances to create our dream home, here’s 2 of the 4 listed that had me at I-want-to-work-so-hard-for-the-next-10-years-to-achieve-something-like-this:

S-House at Lorong Selangat near Serangoon Gardens. I go past this house almost every weekend.

the minimalist interior of a home at Blair Road

While I have to admit that maintaining an outdoor lap pool (in the first home) and a stark white interior will probably be 2 of the top challenges and horror of a home owner, I reckon its still worth a thought to be inspired and see how we can tweak some elements to our new crib next time.

House-spirations

I woke up with a major flu bug this morning but for some strange reason, the first thing I did was to log on the comp and search for pictures of themed-homes.

I looked through Manhattan styled (which I am growing to love) ones, Resort styled ones (which I was soon getting bored of ), and even explored SOHO themed ones (didn’t exude the homey feeling).

Gave me a few ideas of how we could widen the hall area so that we can accommodate at least 10 pax comfortably, and a few conversation starters to get the husband on when I see him for lunch later. Ha Ha. Let’s hope the budget gets approved.

Trip or Re-decoration? Tough one.
