love from miles away

whenever i receive an email from a friend or loved one whose located overseas, my heart just flutters and giggles at all the quirky things they say. its funny how much difference cultures can make to a note.

i can be having one of the worst mood swings for the day, but the moment i receive their mail and read it – the worries and angst seem to disappear right away.

most of these loved ones are wonderful people I got to know from Church. Some lived here (SG) a couple of days/weeks/months/years, some often pass through here while going for their vacations or business trips, some I met and got to know better through pen-pal letter writing, and some I got to know during past bible camps I attended.

this evening, i received 3 surprise-nice emails.

the first was from david (whose family were in Singapore for the past 2 weeks – they always make an effort to come by every 1 – 2 years because our families are close) doing a short follow-up note just hours after they arrived back in Sydney. david’s a funny dude, so his content in the note got me and the husband laughing quite a bit.

the other came from J. i’ve been getting some trouble buying some clothes online because i didn’t have a US- based credit card, and was emailing him several times for advice to get around it. J’s another funny dude which cracks me and the husband up all the time – so when he insisted on his solution (which he had to insist down my throat and quit asking me to be polite), i was amazed at a problem solved so quickly over a few emails of laughs.

the last from A. “hi, missed hearing from ya. :D”

it absolutely made my evening, knowing that even miles and miles away – you can receive love, joy and laughs in little ways.
